Kommetjie is a little paradise located about 40 minutes from Cape Town – TimeOut’s 2025 choice for number 1 city in the world – https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/usa\/news\/time-out-crowns-the-best-cities-in-the-world-for-2025-011525#<\/a>. Not only this, but Cape Town was also voted the number 1 best city in the world for food by Cond\u00e9 Nast in 2024 – https:\/\/www.cntraveller.com\/article\/best-cities-for-food-in-the-world<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kommetjie, means \u201cLittle Bowl\u201d and is named after the circular bowl-like sea basin \u201dDie Kom\u201d which forms the original heart of this special seaside village. Kommetjie is unusual in that it is one of the few places in Cape Town where the few houses that are there, are built relatively close to the beach. The vibe is distinctively relaxed, the natural beauty spectacular and the vista visibly unspoilt by mass tourism all of which will make you immediately feel like you\u2019re on holiday the minute you arrive. Kommetjie however, remains close enough to Cape Town and a myriad of other areas and activities to suit every taste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start your day with a stroll along Long Beach the long white beach in front of the house which, stretches from Kommetjie to Noordhoek. The beach is known for being one of Cape Town\u2019s surfing & kite surfing hot spots. The landscape changes constantly with each day bringing something different to see. You\u2019re likely to encounter bird and marine life as well as surfers carrying their surfboards or people walking their dogs. Walk to surfers\u2019 corner around the coast to the left and you will come to South Africa\u2019s tallest cast iron lighthouse – the Slangkoppunt Lighthouse, which, you can climb to see Cape Point Nature Reserve and Hout Bay watched over by its majestic sentinel on the other side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kommetjie is a Crayfish (Cape Rock Lobster) hotspot and it is also famed as a great bird watching area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is plenty to do in and around Kommetjie itself and it is the perfect springboard to visit Cape Point. Your trip there will take you through some pretty spectacular scenery on the way as you head south through Witssands, Misty Cliffs and Scarborough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also head North along past Noordhoek and drive the spectacular Chapmans Peak Drive to Hout Bay on to Llandudno, past Camps Bay to Cape Town and head back home the other way taking in the sights of the Cape Peninsula while stopping off on the way at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens or in the Constantia winelands for a wine tasting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
